Cleaning and care instructions for design floor coverings

Our design floor coverings are given a durable PU finish at the factory. This protective finish also acts as protection during transportation and as protection against damage and the ingress of dirt or staining substances during the construction stage and afterwards.

PREVENTIVE MEASURES

Protecting the entrance and transition areas with suitable and adequately sized dirt-trapping zones (at least two to three steps long) provides effective protection against (wet) dirt, dust and grains of sand brought in, which can lead to unnecessary scratches or abrasion. Furthermore, the cleaning costs are thereby considerably reduced and the appearance and service life significantly improved over the long term.

A cleaning regime is to be maintained during the construction stage to keep the floor covering free of sand and dust as well as other loose dirt, so that this does not lead to irreparable damage. It makes sense to protect our design floor coverings during the ongoing construction stage with suitable materials immediately after installation.

CLEANING ON COMPLETION OF THE CONSTRUCTION WORK

Firstly any loose dirt should be thoroughly removed by sweeping or vacuuming. Then wipe off stubborn dirt with a cleaning agent suitable for PU-coated floors, such as Dr. Schutz PU Reiniger, and rinse off with clean water.

If using a cleaning machine to clean the floor, we recommend the use of non-abrasive, red pads, e.g. 3 M.

Manual cleaning is recommended for areas that are difficult to reach, such as corners, stairs, edges etc.

For living areas with a low level of soiling and usage, the Dr. Schutz SprayMop combined with the ready-to-use Dr. Schutz Spraymax is a very good alternative for quickly and easily cleaning loose dust and fine dirt.

MAINTENANCE CLEANING

Maintenance cleaning means regular, manual cleaning with mops or wipers, which should be carried out several times a week or even daily depending on the amount of dirt arising. Maintenance cleaning can also be carried out by using suitable cleaning machines.

Remove any loose dirt either by sweeping, vacuuming or damp wiping. In case of damp wiping, use either impregnated nonwoven cloths or a conventional mop. As already recommended under Section 3.), in case of heavy soiling with stubborn dirt, a cleaning agent suitable for PU-coated floors, e.g. Dr. Schutz PU Reiniger, should be added to the water so as to completely remove the loosened dirt. Afterwards, always rinse thoroughly with clean water.

Depending on use, in the case of design floor coverings with a coarse groove texture, it is possible after a longer period of use for dirt particles to build up, which can no longer be removed by manual wiping methods. In this case, depending on requirements, intermediate cleaning is recommended with a cleaning machine (single-disk machine) using a non-abrasive pad, e.g. white or red. On smaller areas, the effect can also be achieved by thorough manual scrubbing and wiping down.

THOROUGH and INTENSIVE CLEANING

Heavy or extreme soiling should be removed by means of thorough cleaning with the aid of machinery. For this purpose, the use of red pads or brushes (nylon brushes) and a wet vacuum cleaner is highly recommended, which makes the thorough cleaning far easier.

The following basic principle applies: no matter which type of cleaning is used, ALWAYS wipe off with clean water!

INITIAL TREATMENT/RENOVATION WORK

As a matter of principle, our floor coverings are coated at the factory with a durable PU finish. This is used to best protect the floor coverings during transportation and the construction stage and is also adequate, as a rule, for domestic applications subject to normal wear.

To best protect design floor coverings used in heavy duty contract areas and to ensure that the surface can continue to be easily cleaned, we recommend an additional seal, e.g. with Dr. Schutz PU Siegel.

Check the heavily used and frequented areas regularly for signs of wear and re-seal them accordingly as required. The manufacturer's instructions must be observed.

If signs of wear appear on the flooring surface in living areas after longer or intensive use, after carrying out careful, thorough cleaning it is recommended to freshen up the surface protection with a suitable care product, such as Dr. Schutz Floor Matt.

Tip: As an ideal starter set for all design floors in living areas, we recommend e.g. the Dr. Schutz Design Floor Care Set.

REMOVING STAINS

Staining and aggressive substances must always be removed from the surface immediately, as certain types of stain set in and can then only be removed with difficulty or not completely.

If you use cleaning agents or stain removers to treat stains, on the one hand it is essential to observe the information and instructions of the respective manufacturer, and on the other hand a material compatibility test must always be carried out on an inconspicuous area where possible or on a plank not yet installed before the application.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Office roller chairs must be fitted with soft “W” type rollers pursuant to EN 12529 for use on our design floor coverings. Soft felt pads should be fitted under furniture (please replace these on a regular basis due to sticking hairs and coarse dust, which lead to microscratches on the surface) or suitable, if possible light-coloured and migration-free plastic pads (e.g. Teflon or scratchnomore furniture pads) should be used.

Contact with sharp-edged or abrasive supporting surfaces is to be avoided on the floor.

If the floor is exposed to direct contact with coloured and black pads for longer periods, due to the migration of substances this can lead to discolouration that can no longer be removed (e.g. bicycle/car, tyres, transport equipment tyres). It is therefore recommended to use suitable underlays on the feet of washing machines, refrigerators or fitness equipment etc.

High pressure point loads on a small area, which includes stiletto heels, for example, can lead to irreparable indentations or damage on elastic floor coverings. Use suitable and adequately sized underlays where possible to spread the load from furniture better.

The following basic principle applies: only cleaning agents that are recommended by JAB Teppiche Heinz Anstoetz KG are to be used. In this respect, care must be taken to follow the manufacturer's instructions.

Our design floor coverings have a very high light fastness, which is tested and documented by independent institutes according to international standards. Nevertheless, in areas with high UV radiation, such as south-facing floor-to-ceiling windows without an adequate shading system, fading and/or colour changes cannot be ruled out over the long term. This is referred to as natural discolouration.

We therefore recommend the use of adequately dimensioned shading in these areas to prevent or minimise this fading or colour change.
